Kalimdor: Winterspring

In the very north of Kalimdor, at the foot of Mount Hyjal, lay the frozen lands of Winterspring.

The Frostfire Hot Springs recently emerged from the icy ground, spouting steaming water high into the air.

Long ago the area was home to a large Night Elf population, but their ancient cities had fallen into ruin in more recent times.

The crumbling remains of the once sprawling city could be seen from Lake Kel'Theril.

The Ruins of Kel'Theril were haunted by the restless spirits of the elves that were slaughtered thousands of years ago in the Sundering.

Danger lurked in every valley and corner of the Spring.

The furbolgs at Winterfall Village became corrupted and malevolent.

The once peaceful tribe took up arms within their fortress ...

... and invaded their neighbors, taking over Timbermaw Post.

Even the wildlife succumbed to the strange magics in the air.

The graceful felines at Frostsaber Rock lashed out at their former allies.

The Moonkin within The Hidden Grove attacked all who entered.

The enraged Moonkin raged through the small dwarven encampment at Dun Mandarr.

The Wildkin of Owl Wing Thicket lashed out at the creatures they once were guardians of ...

... and the altar to their Goddess lay broken and lifeless.

The goblins of Everlook seemed oblivious to the chaos outside their walls.

While the Night Elves of Starfall Village vied to find the cause of the changes.

Far to the south, past Frostwhisper Gorge ...

... lay the twisted demonic territory of Darkwhisper Gorge.

Unholy waters oozed from the scorched, tainted ground.

The area was the lair of the most powerful demons in Kalimdor.

In the darkest corner of the Gorge lay a ruined walkway ...

... leading to the magically barred Gates of Mount Hyjal. No adventurer had set foot within since the Third War, and none knew if the demons were trying to get in ... or out.
