Kalimdor: Ashenvale

Ashenvale was one of the most ancient and protected forests in all of Kalimdor, the sovereign territory of the Night Elves for tens of thousands of years.

Their craftsmanship and devotion was written in the very stone they shaped, the very plants they preserved, the very animals that were their allies.

Every part of the land was touched by the Elves' presence.

Cultists at Bathran's Haunt defiled the ruins of the Elves' former settlements.

Their evil spread to the Ruins of Ordil'Aran, where the Heartswood Tree once grew.

Maestra's Post served as an Elven' watch station  ...

... and as a Crossroads between the sea shores and the forest proper.
The Zoram Strand was once a magnificent Elven city.

All that remained of the ancient temple on the Strand were the flooded tunnels of Blackfathom Deeps.

Naga heavily infested the Ruins of Zoram ...

... and raided the dwarven excavations on the isles off of the Strand.

The Horde's Zoram'gar Outpost stood along the shores.

Lake Falathim was once the site of a Night Elven village.

The Shrine of Aessina was dedicated to an ancient spirit of the Wilderness.

A large tribe of furbolg made their home in Thistlefur Village.

The furbolg's den twisted deep down into the earth.

Fire Scar Shrine was swarming with lesser demons.

The Ruins of Stardust are all that remained of an Elven shrine.

The area is now thick with demonic corruption.

The Night Elven village of Astranaar rested in the middle of a small lake.

The village served as a central hub of Elven activity in the forest.

Silverwind Refuge was one of many Silverwind Sentinel outposts.

The Refuge looked over the shores of Mystral Lake.

While Silverwing Grove was their main base of operations.

The long-disused portal to Warsong Gulch lay within.

The Silverwind Sentinels watched over and protected Ashenvale's roads from their  Silverwind Outpost.

The entrance to the Talondeep Path went unguarded.

For the Cenarion Druids at Raynewood Retreat were few and surrounded by foes.

Even with their Dryad allies they were vastly outnumbered.

Worgen swarmed around the near by Howling Vale, defiling the Shrine of Mel'Thandri.

Demons poured forth from their settlement at Night's Run ...

... from encampment at Xavian ...

... and from behind the corrupted walls of Satyrnaar.

Demon and Cultist alike worshiped at their twisted alter.

Across Fallen Sky Lake the Elves' ancestral territory faced a newer, younger menace: The Horde.

The Warsong Clan of Orcs invaded the forest during the Third War, and have claimed the eastern half of the woods as their own. Splintertree Post was only one of many Orcish outposts.

Warsong Peons and their Goblin allies defiled the forest around their Labor Camp, falling trees both young and ancient alike.

The Warsong Lumber Camp poured smoke and filth into the skies and waters where groves once stood.

The Lumber Camp grew into a mighty Orcish settlement.

The greatly fortified Kargathia Keep stood at the heart of the Camp.

Driven mad by the Horde's incursion, the sleeping spirits within in the Dor'Danil Barrow Den lashed out at their Forsaken tormentors.

Demonic Forces at Felfire Hill wrecked havoc on the Horde's encampments.

Within Demon Fall Canyon an ancient enemy of the Orcs lay wasted.

The Memorial to Grom Hellscream stands at the place at the Orcish Hero gave his life to free his brethren by slaying the Pit Lord Mannoroth.

The scattered and weakened demonic forces still lashed out at the Orcs.

A tiny Elven outpost at Forest Song was all that stood against the Orcs.

The twisted magics of The Emerald Nightmare were flanked by twisted Green Dragons that were long ago sent to guard the Dream.

A once sacred and protected land, Ashenvale Forest had become a place of monumental conflict, suffering, and corruption.
