Just beyond the gates of Stormwind the rolling hills and fertile fields of Elwynn Forest remained under the city's protection.
Many family owned businesses made their livelihood within the forest, including Milly's Apple Orchard.
Others like the Crazy Cat Lady simply made it their home.

In the eastern reaches of the Forest lay another small settlement.
The Eastvale Logging Camp was abuzz with mill workers and the stable full of horse breeders and riding instructors.
While the nearby village was home to their families.
The Fargodeep mine was once a source of income for the kingdom.
As was the Jasperlode Mine to the north.
The Brackwells and several other hard working farm families toiled in the fields to provide Stormwind with their produce.
A legendary feud remained between the Stonefield family ...
... and their neighbors the Maclures.
Humans were not the only natives to the Forest. Murlocs built their villages on the shores of Crystal Lake ...
... and along the Nazferiti River Delta ...
... and all along the banks of Stone Cairn Lake. It seemed to many an aspiring adventurer as if Murlocs were everywhere.
More dangers lurked in the woods.
Gnolls made their camps to the north of Stone Cairn Lake.
As well as along the stream in Forest's Edge.
Defias magi defaced the monuments of Hero's Vigil.
Jerod's Landing was completely over run with Defias thugs.
Brigands and rogues overtook the family home atop Thunder Falls.
Stormwind's Guards patroled from Ridgepoint Tower ...
... to Westbrook Garrison. They often enlisted adventurers for aid.
The Magi within the Tower of Azora removed themselves from the conflict.
Most of the citizens - like the family that ran the Mirror Lake Orchard - were simple caught between the mischievous factions.
Despite the petty squabbles, Elwynn Forest remained one of the safest places in all of the Eastern Kingdoms.
